Huang Yu-Li(黃有利) met with a car accident when he was a senior high school student and was seriously injured. Looking back now, he is extremely thankful to the generous blood donors who had donated 4 bags of blood to save him from death. “Just as the slogan goes, “I thank you even though I don’t know who you are”. If not because of those who gave their blood, I wouldn’t be here today.” He said gratefully.
The accident has changed Huang's life. He decided to become a voluntary blood donor, to show his appreciation and to help others.
Accidents happened unexpectedly. Huang met with an accident when he was a student. A car made an illegal left turn and knocked him down when he was crossing the road. He lost consciousness at the scene and was rushed to the hospital with 3 broken ribs, a skull fracture and intracranial hemorrhage. He survived after an emergency surgery with blood transfusion. When he regained consciousness 13 days later, he could hardly remember what happened. He felt like he has had a long sleep and only after hearing from his family member, he realized that he had survived a near-fatal car accident.
Being saved from death, Huang thanked god for sparing his life and was grateful to kind strangers for their gift of blood. After recovering from the car accident, the 17-year-old boy started giving his blood regularly and make apheresis donation every 2 weeks. He has made a total of 327 donations at different blood collection sites located at Jhongli, Taoyuan and ChangGung. He also received the blood donation outstanding merit recognition from HsinChu Blood Center multiple times. His wife and coworkers were encouraged to roll up their sleeves too. Huang shares his experience of donation on social networks by checking in his location of blood collection. He wanted to encourage more people to become a blood donor and feel the happiness of helping others.
