2014 World Blood Donor Day in Taipei

2014/11/17

To promote and support the World Blood Donor Day program, Taipei Blood Center held an event on 13 June at the busy streets of XiMenDing (西門町). We invited the children from Li-Huei Kindergarten of New Taipei city (新北市勵輝幼兒園) to join our campaign by organizing the “Warm-blooded angels” (熱血小天使) team, following the E-Mei Blood mobile to promote blood donations in the public. Children shouted out slogans “Safe blood for Moms, Whoever you are, Donate blood when grown up, blood donation save lives” in bright voice, in hope to raise public awareness concerning the maternal mortality of women around the world. About 800 women around the world died each day during delivery. Adequate blood supply can be great support to mothers and mothers-to-be, saving their lives thus saving the next generations.

We specially invited Guo-Hua Wang (王國華), a RH-Negative donor to share her story at the event. Whenever she receives calls from blood center for regular donation, she will make the donation without hesitation. No matter which blood type one has, she urged on regular blood donation to help keep sufficient blood supply of every blood type, thus support a safe delivery for every mother. Another invited donor, Jia-Jhen Guo (郭佳真) was honored the best example of filial piety. Her mother underwent three surgeries for brain tumor, and received blood transfusion in 2 of those surgeries which had helped saved her mother’s life. Having her dearest mother by her side healthily, she become a regular donor, and has already donated 6 times since then.

Taipei Blood Center’s Facebook fan page organized a “Thanksgiving our mothers by blood donation” event and has earned lots of likes. Blood donor Miss Zhang is a delivery room nurse who has helped many mothers. She was inspired by the event. “Our mothers had risked her life delivering us to this world with blood and tears.” she said. RH-Negative donor Miss Chen once had complaints to her rare blood type, until she received a call from the blood center where her RH-Negative blood was needed. She then realized that she was destined to own such blood type which may help others in need and then become comfortable with it.
Children from Li-Huei Kindergarten of New Taipei City organized in “Warm-blooded angels” team formed a heart-shaped queue for promotion of World Blood Donor Day.
